Our plane doesn't leave until 227pm and we are one of the last groups to leave. We came together as strangers and left as friends!
Thursday dec 19th

Travel day!  Such a bitter feeling leaving the station.  I enjoyed my time there and glad we were able to experience this! We traveled coast side and I got to see the Pacific Ocean again! We stopped at playa dominicol where I picked up some souvenirs and I had put my feet in the ocean. It was very humid at this location. A few from the group are leaving early :(
Wednesday December 18th

We presented our posters today! Our group was 2nd to last. Everyone did a wonderful job! In the morning we finished the last minute and very proud of the work we did. I was very nervous when presenting because I haven't done a scientific board before

After lunch Lucia demonstrated how to make the string for the bags she makes and Aldwin and myself were able to assist her. Monday, December 16th 2019

Rachel and I started working on the scientific poster. Jamison was under the weather and they took him to the local hospital. The butterfly on the poster was picked because of the beautiful colors. After lunch the indigenous group said a prayer before going into the forest to pick medincial plants. We ended up going to the greenhouse on the property instead. Armando and salisten(sp?) Showed us many plants . One plant that stood out was one that if a woman would drink it once a day for 4 days she would not get pregnant for 5 years.... WOW.... the smoking area is at the bus stop outside of the property and the guards I have met are very friendly

Sunday December 15 we had breakfast and I was anxious to see san vito so I didnt eat much. We got back to wilson and I slept waiting for our 11 am ride.  I was excited so jake jamison ambrea and I called for a taxi and left at 1030. The town was quiet for a sunday so we anxiously waited for the Italian restaurant to open. The place didnt open on time and the service was slow. It was over an hour waiting for our pizza. We walked around the town and I got sick of carrying the pizza.  I seen a local dog and I tried to feed her the first slice of my leftovers... that dog almost ate my fingers as well.... we came back to wilson and played some cards. All and all I think we all needed this break. The weather back home might be In the negatives but I miss it
Saturday we searched for more butterflies aka mariposa and I helped find 3 more for our group. We had an ice cream break and found out the town san vito was having a fiesta for christmas. But ALAS we were unable to go.  It would have been an experience seeing how another culture celebrated Christmas. But still excited to see the town tomorrow..   I was extremely tired so I went to bed early

Friday, December 13th 2019.

With the help of jamison and rachel I had the chance to identify a butterfly that was caught in the area behind the lab. During an ice cream break I told my fellow classmates about the locales at the bus stop selling crafts they made.  We made our way to the bus stop and this time they locals brought a smaller dog who wasn't that friendly and looked like it needed a good meal.  We actually had the evening off in which I slept.  Today will be exciting I will be getting a temporary tattoo and learning a new dance and how to weave a bag

This morning and part of the afternoon I searched for butterflies in the garden along with taking pictures of the flowers that are growing in this area. Also finally met veronica and Hans from Switzerland that have been at the station since Tuesday they were a delightful couple that showed me pictures of the birds they found. I still haven't seen a monkey or sloth
Our group went to the butterfly garden to record the types of butterflies in the area  and in the afternoon jamison and rachel headed into the forest to find more species. The evening we spent learning the process on removing the pulp from a local leave to create twine that will be dried and used in weaving bags.  The whole process takes roughly two weeks.  I also had some time to ask the leader from the embara tribe in Panama some questions on how he became chief because he looked so young.   He spoke about starting at a young age following his father because he was chief

December 10 2019

Our group took a tour around the botanical gardens where we were told of the various plants in the garden and how this place was started by the Wilson's. We also walked the grounds and saw where everything was at.  We took the long trek into the forest area and made it to the observation tower where we saw the majority of the area.
